LONDRA - Steven Gerrard è finito in manette per una rissa in un pub. Il capitano e bandiera del Liverpool, 28 anni, è stato arrestato verso le 2.30 fuori da un locale di Southport. E' sospettato di aggressione. Con lui sono state fermate altre cinque persone.

Soltanto poche ore prima Gerrard aveva dato, come spesso accade, un contributo rilevante sul campo segnando due dei gol con cui il Liverpool aveva vinto per 5-1 in casa del Newcastle e aveva allungato in vetta alla classifica della Premier League. Un portavoce della squadra inglese non ha voluto confermare o smentire il coinvolgimento del giocatore.

La polizia, chiamata da qualcuno che aveva segnalato problemi davanti al locale, ha riferito che un trentaquattrenne di Southport è stato portato in ospedale con ferite al volto: le sue condizioni non sono gravi. Gli altri uomini fermati con il centrocampista della nazionale inglese hanno tra i 18 e i 33 anni e sono tutti di Liverpool.

The alleged victim of a nightclub brawl which led to Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard being arrested is a DJ at the venue, police sources confirmed on Monday.

The England midfielder remains in police custody after the 34-year-old Southport man was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

Sources confirmed the man was an employee of the Lounge Inn, in Southport, Merseyside, where the midfielder and five other men were arrested on suspicion of assault in the early hours of Monday.

Gerrard, 28, was at the restaurant and bar - which turns into a nightclub - with friends to celebrate Liverpool's 5-1 victory against Newcastle.

But trouble began and an altercation took place outside the premises in Bold Street.

The town centre premises remained shut on Monday but evidence of a fight inside could be seen through the windows.

Spots of blood were clearly visible on the floor, and shards of broken glass.

A Bentley car, which is believed to have been parked overnight, remained outside the club with a parking ticket attached.

On Monday, Gerrard's wife Alex Curran, 26, left a coffee shop close to the police station where the father of her two children was being questioned.

She refused to answer reporters' questions as she walked to her Bentley car and drove off in the opposite direction from the police station, heading towards Liverpool.

A Liverpool spokesman said the club would not be commenting on their captain's arrest.

A police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police are investigating an assault that took place in the early hours of Monday December 29 on Bold Street in Southport.

"At around 2.30am this morning officers attended a disturbance at a licensed premises on Bold Street.

"Six men were arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault on Lord Street.

"The men, four aged 33, 31, 29 and 19, who all come from the Huyton area, a 28-year-old man from Formby and an 18-year-old man from Litherland remain in police custody.

"A 34-year-old man from Southport was taken to hospital with facial injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Il capitano del Liverpool e colonna della nazionale inglese Steven Gerrard, è stato fermato stanotte dopo una colluttazione avvenuta intorno alle 2.30 fuori da un pub di Southport, il Lounge Inn. A riportare la notizia e il sito internet della britannica Bbc. Gerrard sarebbe stato poi trattenuto per un lungo interrogatorio e si trova ancora in stato di fermo insieme ai protagonisti di questa notte travagliata.
MEGA RISSA - Un portavoce della polizia ha dichiarato che "la polizia del Merseyside sta indagando su un'aggressione avvenuta alle prime ore di lunedì 29 dicembre a Bold Street, Southport. Verso le 2.30 del mattino, gli agenti hanno raggiunto il luogo. Sei persone sono state arrestate a Lord Street". Si tratta di "quattro uomini di 33, 31, 29 e 19 anni, tutti provenienti dalla zona di Huyton, un 28enne di Formby (Gerrard, ndr) e un 18enne di Litherland. Un 34enne di Southport è stato trasportato in ospedale per ferite al volto ma la sua vita non è in pericolo".
DOPO PARTITA - L'episodio si è verificato poche ore dopo la partita che il Liverpool ha vinto per 5-1 sul campo del Newcastle. Gerrard è stato protagonista assoluto del match, realizzando 2 reti. I reds sono al comando della classifica della Premier League con 45 punti, 3 in più rispetto al Chelsea. Chiamato in causa sull'arresto, un portavoce del Liverpool si è stretto dietro il più classico dei "no comment".
